The Company has established a long-term sustainability framework as a strategic effort to manage environmental, social and governance impacts of business activities. This sustainability framework is not the first to be implemented. The Company has previously implemented sustainability programs that are in line with sustainable development. Through this sustainability framework, the Company sets the direction for our business development in the next 10 years.
The Sustainability Framework contains sustainability strategies and initiatives for the period of 2020-2030 in order to realize the Company’s sustainability vision as a world-class mining service provider company that is responsible for the environment.
The sustainability framework is prepared based on the principle of materiality by identifying priority areas so that they are in line with the Company’s environmental, social and governance (ESG) sustainability context. The priority areas in question are areas that have a significant impact on sustainability, so it is expected to be able to ultimately make a positive contribution to the Company’s business and increase the optimal value for stakeholders.
There are 6 priority areas to become pillars of sustainability, namely, (1) safety; (2) eco-efficiency; (3) optimization; (4) Human Capital (5) community; and (6) climate.
MAIN SUSTAINABILITY STRATEGIES
The Company has developed two main strategies in order to manage the pillars of sustainability in which there are 4 (four) focuses of business development, namely:
1. Operational Excellence
2. Diversification towards a transition to a low carbon economy
The Company through BUMA develops low- carbon business activities, with a focus on developing business opportunities in the areas of:
- Mine owner
Conducting business development aimed at a broader scope of the current business, where the Company can act as the owner of mining concessions.
- Renewable & construction
Developing new and renewable energy businesses and in the construction sector
- Mining technology
Developing technology business that can be used in mining practices.
In each pillar of sustainability, the Company together with BUMA have compiled short- and long-term programs, supported by a foundation of sustainability that is integrated in governance, risk management, compliance management and transparency.
This sustainability report will present the strategies, programs and initiatives that have been carried out in each of the Company’s sustainability pillars.
SUSTAINABILITY FRAMEWORK AND SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT GOALS
The sustainability framework was established by considering and integrating the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) into the sustainability pillars of the Company. The Company’s contribution to the achievement of SDGs is expressed through the implementation of corporate social and environmental responsibility (CSR) programs that are empowering communities living around our operational areas. Various programs have been designed in the form of community development and empowerment activities, especially for women.
Apart from the CSR program, the Company also directly provides positive contributions through human resource management, programs on occupational health and safety, efficiency, and environmental preservation which are implemented at all times in operational activities. The Company has directly and indirectly contributed to almost all of the targets in SDGs, but there are 12 goals that are the focus of the Company through our Sustainability Framework initiatives.
